Description

Holme Valley Dyslexia Centre

My name is Halina Connolly and I run Holme Valley Dyslexia Centre in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

With over 24 years of experience as a teacher, SENCo and senior leader across three local authorities, and as a parent of children with SEND, I understand how overwhelming it can feel when your child is struggling and you don’t know where to turn. My aim is to provide clear answers, practical recommendations and genuine support to every family I work with.

I have extensive experience of working with neurodivergent children and young people, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and a range of co-occurring speech, language, sensory, processing and social, emotional and mental health needs. I understand that neurodiversity looks different in every child and that learning differences rarely exist in isolation. Taking a holistic approach allows me to understand each child’s individual strengths and needs and provide recommendations that are both practical and meaningful.

I carry out full diagnostic dyslexia assessments for children and young people aged 8 to 18. Every assessment is carried out by me and follows current SASC guidelines. My diagnostic reports are recognised by schools, colleges and examination boards and are written in clear, accessible language, with detailed recommendations to help parents and educators understand a child’s strengths, difficulties and the support they need to thrive.

I also offer a limited number of specialist one-to-one multisensory dyslexia intervention sessions, tailored to each learner’s individual profile. These sessions are designed to build confidence, develop literacy skills and provide a calm, supportive environment in which children can learn and succeed.

I hold a current SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and an AMBDA Level 7 qualification in teaching and assessing learners with specific learning difficulties. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am Paediatric First Aid and Team Teach trained.

I am passionate about helping children and young people understand how they learn best and ensuring that families feel informed, supported and empowered throughout the process.

I am proud to have received 36 five-star Google Business reviews from families and professionals who have used my assessment and intervention services. Their feedback reflects my commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate and evidence-based support for children and young people with SEND.
